Vainu parent app privacy policy

What the app collects from parents and guardians, what it shows you about your children, who can see it and how long it is kept.

Who this covers

The Vainu parent app is for parents and guardians of children at schools that use Vainu for their buses. Only guardians the school has registered can sign in, and each guardian sees only their own children.

The school decides which children and guardians are in Vainu. Vainu processes this data for the school, to run its bus service. If you want to know what is held about you or your child, you can ask the school or us.

What the app collects from you

Only what the app needs to work:

  • Your mobile number or email address and your password, to sign in
  • A notification token for this phone, so bus updates can reach it
  • Which updates you have opened
  • Your answers to photo checks, and any note you add when you say a photo is not your child

What the app shows you

The app shows you what the school’s Vainu service holds about your own children: their names, today’s bus trips, each record the conductor made (boarded, received at school, dropped off, handed to a guardian, absent), problems the conductor reported, and the bus’s location while a trip is running.

When a conductor records your child without the face check, they take a photo of your child, and the app shows it to you to confirm. The photo is shown from a link that works for one minute and is not saved on your phone. A photo check that nobody answers expires after 12 hours.

What the app does not collect

The app does not use your phone’s location, camera, microphone, contacts or files; it removes Android’s permissions for them. When you tap Call the bus, your phone’s own dialer makes the call. The app has no ads and no analytics or tracking tools.

Who can see it

Data is used only to run the school’s bus service. It is never sold, used for advertising or shared for anyone else’s purposes.

  • The school’s transport staff see your answers to photo checks and your notes, so they can act on them. A “not my child” answer alerts them at once
  • Other guardians of the same child see that a guardian has answered a photo check
  • Other families and other schools see nothing about you or your child
  • Hosting, storage and notification providers handle the data for us and may not use it for anything else
  • We may disclose data where Indian law requires it

How long it is kept

Your account lasts as long as the school lists you as a guardian, or until you delete it. Signing out removes this phone’s notification token. Your answers to photo checks are kept with the trip records they belong to, for as long as the school’s agreement with Vainu sets out, because the school needs a history of every trip. When a school leaves Vainu, its data is deleted or returned to it under that agreement.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Your sign-in is kept in the phone’s secure storage, and the app turns off Android’s backup, so nothing from it is copied to a cloud backup. Photos are stored encrypted in private storage, and every view of one is logged. Each school’s data is kept apart from every other school’s.

Children

The parent app is for adults; children do not use it. It shows information about children only to the guardians the school has linked to them.

Deleting your account

You can ask for your account and the data linked to it to be deleted at any time, from Delete my account on the app’s home screen or on the account deletion page at www.vainu.in/parent/delete-account.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete data about you or your child through the school or by writing to us at krisgarg.work@gmail.com. We will work with the school to answer. If the school must keep a record by law or under its agreement with us, we will tell you which and why.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date and tell the schools that use Vainu. Questions: krisgarg.work@gmail.com.
